Dental Crowns

When a significant portion of a tooth has been or will soon be lost to decay or fracture, your dentist at Thoroughdent Smiles will evaluate for potential crown treatment. A dental “cap” or crown requires reshaping the tooth after appropriate anesthesia has been acquired. At that point, any areas of decay will be removed and replaced to provide a stable foundation for the crown. After reshaping the outer surface of the tooth for proper crown placement, a temporary cap will be placed for tooth protection while your new esthetic and functional crown is fabricated in the laboratory. Our doctors work with the laboratory to ensure we translate any needs or requests from the patient during the fabrication of the crown. For example, patients may request highly esthetic crown materials like zirconia or incredibly functional restorations like gold. When the permanent crown is ready to be permanently cemented, the patient is invited to return back to our office for final crown cementing and any necessary adjustments. During the entirety of this process, your doctor will walk you thru each step to ensure proper restoration of the tooth and more importantly, comfort throughout the procedure.
