What do Invisalign and Traditional Braces Have in Common?

Both of these orthodontic solutions were designed with the goal of straightening your teeth. Along with straightening your teeth,  these options will work on the improvement of your oral health and your smile.

In order to get the best result, traditional metal braces and Invisalign both need to be worn for a set period of time. After treatment, many patients will need to still wear a retainer at night to ensure their teeth stay in their new adjust positions.

We asked our friend Ben Kacos, a 71105 dentist, about the concerns of his patients at his dentistry. He explains that the cost consideration is perhaps one of the strongest concerns patients tend to have about orthodontic solutions. Generally speaking, traditional braces are the most cost-effective option over Invisalign. They are not always the right choice for every patient in need of orthodontia options.

When you visit with us, you’ll learn each of the benefits that both the traditional braces and Invisalign aligner trays can offer you.

The Differences Between Invisalign and Traditional Braces

Invisalign Georgetown, KY, is growing in popularity as more learn about the benefits that it can offer. Learning more about the benefits of this aligner tray system can help you to make an informed choice.

With or without dental insurance, the costs of visiting your Georgetown, KY dentist can add up when you have traditional braces. Based on the severity of the misalignment being treated, traditional braces need to be adjusted every six weeks. With the Invisalign system, patients will be given a set of aligner trays that can be switched out at home. Consequently, this limits the number of times each patient will need to go into the office.

Traditional braces, while designed to be durable, can still sustain damage. A wire or a bracket may loosen or break. This will require a visit to the dentist. On the other hand, the Invisalign aligner trays are durable. If one of the trays is lost or damaged, it can be readily replaced with the next aligner tray in the series.

One of the key differences between the two systems is that Invisalign aligner trays can allow you to better clean your teeth.  You must brush your teeth thoroughly with traditional metal braces, but it can be difficult to get teeth completely clean. However, the Invisalign aligner trays can be removed when you need to clean your teeth. You’ll be able to brush and floss without hindrance. For this reason, many patients prefer the removable tray option that Invisalign offers.

Invisalign Aligner Trays are More Convenient

If the misalignment is not severe, Invisalign can often be the better option for teenagers and adults alike. For example, the near-invisible aligner trays can help to boost the confidence of those wearing them. Though traditional braces are effective, they are very visible. For teens and some adults, this can take a toll on their levels of confidence.

Invisalign allows you to continue to enjoy the same foods that you love by allowing you to simply remove the trays at mealtimes. This is important, as traditional braces do often bring with them some food restrictions that wearers may not enjoy.

Traditional braces can leave the inside of the lips and cheeks irritated, even with dental wax. Invisalign offers a much more comfortable experience for the wearer, and there should be zero irritation for the lips, cheeks, and gums.
