Today, preventive dentistry is all the rave and dentists are constantly discussing preventative measures with patients to ensure good oral health. You find individuals that go to dentists twice a year, which is the recommended number of times an individual with good oral hygiene should go.
While twice a year rule works for most, you still need to consider your own needs when it comes to figuring out how many times you should visit the dentist. Since every individual’s oral hygiene is different, the rule may not apply to you. You may need to go more often, but keep in mind that twice a year is a minimum.
Why visit the dentist?
Most individuals think that if they take good care of their teeth, they don’t need to visit the dentist. The problem also leads to more serious issues such as periodontitis. So, yes it’s still important to attend your annual dental appointments every six months.

Dr. Chris Green says many people don’t consider their health habits and how they can affect their oral health significantly. He says that people that smoke, are diabetic, or face oral problems will need to see the dentist more often than others. You will be more prone to oral problems which is why you need to make dental cleaning appointments more frequently, to ensure oral issues don’t persist.
Keep in mind that you need to maintain good oral health. The mouth is a gateway to the rest of your body. Infections and bacteria in the mouth can spread to other parts of the body. There are even links to heart issues due to bad oral hygiene. Which is why you need to go to the dentist for checkups and ensure you have no underlying oral problems.
