Know if your kid is at risk of cavities

Use the right toothbrush and proper technique when brushing
To avoid cavities, make sure your child brushes 2-3 times a day. However, the proper technique is very important for effectiveness. Brushing helps keep the bacteria in the mouth from becoming a problem, forming plaque that eventually turns into tartar. But at the same time, if your kid brushes too harshly or for too long, it can cause their gums to bleed or become irritated.

It is important to brush the tongue also to get rid of bacteria that may settle on it.
Limit the consumption of acidic and sugary drinks
Kids love their juice box and once they start to have soft drinks, they can’t seem to get enough. While parents tend to give in to their child constantly pestering them for sugary drinks, it is important to not do so. Both juices and soft drinks contain high levels of sugar which can be detrimental to the child’s oral health. As the drink is consumed, the sugar remains in the saliva for a long period of time. Putting their teeth in constant contact with sugar even after they are done with the drink. Every parent is aware of the implications of sugar when it comes to cavities.
Instead of drinks, promote the consumption of water in your home. Water helps monitor the content of the saliva and ensures that your child is well-hydrated.
Have your kids floss once a day
Flossing is even more important for kids since they love to snack. Bits of food can easily get stuck in between teeth and the inline of gums. While brushing does help clean the surface of the teeth, the food particles in between the teeth are left behind. Flossing helps targets any remaining food particles between the teeth and the tip of the gums so those don’t lead to cavities.
